VEGGIE HOT DOGS

As kids, my brother and I always wanted to have something other than dar bhaat rotli shaak… We wanted to have pizzas, burgers, pasta and what not.. When I was in school, our lunch/snack breaks were spent with our friends and we used to share our lunch. One day my friend had brought hot dogs in her lunch box. It looked so alluring but she said it was non – vegetarian. And of course, since I was a vegetarian, I did not try that. But when I went home, I asked my mom why there was no veggie version. Then my mom, who is a total sweetheart had to come up with something.  And this is the exact recipe I am sharing with you guys of course with my healthy-ish twist. I hope you guys enjoy this recipe.

Prep Time: 30 mins | Cook Time: 22 mins | Total Time: 52 mins | Yields: 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 Hot dog buns
  • 1 large potato (boiled & mashed)
  • ½ cup shredded paneer
  • 2 Thai green chilies finely chopped
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 Cucumber (sliced Lengthwise)
  • 4 slices Amul Cheese
  • 1 tsp. Red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tbsps. Ketchup
  • 4 tbsps. Mustard sauce
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 5 tbsps. All-Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • Oil for greasing the tray

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, mix the mashed potatoes, paneer, green chilies, cilantro, salt, and red chili powder. Shape them in cylindrical croquettes.
  2. Now roll the croquettes in all-purpose flour, then dip them in milk and roll them in breadcrumbs. Repeat this step for all croquettes.
  3. Preheat air fryer on potato settings. Once ready place the rolls on a greased tray and air fry for 22 mins.
  4. Now take the hotdog bun, slit it open,  spread some ketchup and mustard sauce. Then place cucumber, onion on one side of the bun, and cheese on both sides of the bun, place the potato croquette and serve.

Notes:

  • You can fry the croquettes (that’s what my mom does) 🙂
  • I used Walmart’s Great value Spicy brown mustard.
  • I used Ball Park pre-sliced hot dog buns
